SPRINGBOK NUDE GIRLS

Based in Cape Town and Johannesburg

The Springbok Nude Girls was formed in September 1994 and played their first gig at a local venue in Stellenbosch, successfully drawing and entertaining a full house. The band was named after the cover of a pop-culture vinyl (Springbok Records) which featured a almost nude girl. The Nudies were one of the most searched items online on account of the comination of some of South Africa's favourite topics: the Springboks (national rugby team) and nude girls!

An alternative rock band, the Nude Girls (consisting of Vocalist Arno Carsens, Lead Guitarist Theo Crous, bassist Arno Blummer, trumpetter Adriaan Brandt, and drummer Francois Kruger) introduced punk, ska and metal into their songs, introducing a whole new world of music to the youth of South Africa. The originality and quality of the Nudies, as well as other South African bands of the 90's (Sugardrive, Urban Creep, Battery 9, Boo!), inspired other South African musicians and they became not only favourites in South African households but stars and influences in the South African music industry at large.

When the band officially split up in 2004, vocalist Arno Carstens formed the band New Porn, and has also launched a successful solo career. The band (with all 6 original members) was revived in 2006, and they are currently working on a new album.
