GARY DEACON

Based in Cape Town

Gary Deacon began playing the guitar at an early age under the guidance of his father Arthur Deacon. In 1972 he was awarded the Cape Town Eisteddfod Diploma for outstanding performance on solo classical guitar. In 1981 he received a distinction in he final practical guitar examination of the Royal Schools of Music.

He has toured, performed and recorded with many local and international artists including South African jazz guitarist Johnny Fourie, U.K. saxophinist Dave O'Higgins, legendary American jazz guitarist Herb Ellis, popular international singer Helmut Lotti and multi-instrumentalist virtuoso James Morrison from Australia .

Gary is also active as a session musician and composer, having written and recorded many original tunes for the SABC and Fine Music Radio. He obtained an Artes nomination for his record "Six String Things" and an NTVA Award for the music which was composed for his first Video Animation production.
